E's Easy Listening Guide
Last month of summer break! Prep for fall by falling into these Simply Write podcast episodes featuring two amazing authors.
It’s August—there’s a shift in this hot, humid Midwestern air. It’s not quite back-to-school time and yet I'm riding high on that back-to-school energy. I’m ready for pencils and notebooks. I’m ready for new ideas and projects. And, I’m ready to talk podcasts.
Elisabeth Rourke here—Polly’s editorial assistant, professional plant killer, and competitive underwater basket weaver—here to shed some light, love, and props to Polly’s latest guest interviews on the Simply Write w/ Polly Campbell podcast.
Polly’s July author interviews on the Simply Write podcast are the perfect blend of practical career insights and craft.
Author and magazine editor Lorna Hollifield in episode 287, which aired on July 29th, gives solid tips to writers who are trying to create a career out of freelance writing. Lorna brings a different and important take to the process. Many writers don’t know where to start, so they look for examples. Lorna says to learn who you are before adopting a process. When do you have your moments of brilliance in the day? When are your midday slumps? And most importantly, start the day with a bath.
Episode 285 from July 15th is full of wisdom as romance author Leslie J. Wyatt shares how her process has changed and evolved over the years. What I really love about this episode is Leslie’s sage wisdom for beginning writers who put too much weight on the process. Trust yourself, get the pages down, catch the mistakes later. It’s the type of advice that you just don’t see unless you’ve written things the long (i.e. hard) way. Skip that hard step and listen to Leslie—that’s MY advice. Leslie also talks about her journey into the romance genre and how wildly different it is from her past work. Fascinating, really.
Simply Write with Polly Campbell on the Electracast Network is available on Spotify, Apple, or wherever you get your podcasts.
